Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Long before your children asked for iPads, high-tech head phones and an HD-TV for their bedroom, there were toys.
Since we didn't own an “i-Anything" years ago, we turned to the Cabbage Patch doll; turns out to be the hottest number-one item in America.
Christmas shoppers in Fargo-Moorhead lined up as they did around the country to get the much-sought-after doll.
They are so cute; so ugly they are cute. It goes down as the Number One Christmas toy in 50 years.
Rubik's cube in the mid-70s flew off the shelves.
And as the 80s rolled around, Ninja Turtle anything is what kids wanted at Christmas.
Buzz Lightyear, Furbiues, Teletubbies and the never-failing Barbie all make the top-ten list for toys over the years.
And for years, starting in the mid-80s, the Daytons' Department stores introduced us to the Santa Bear.
A half-million sold in just days; going on to be collectible items, as were the Beanie Babies, a small stuffed cloth animal, that sometimes sparked stampedes at stores among holiday shoppers.
Today, they sit boxed up, nearly worthless.
And there is always the "Chia Pet Kitten" for $12.95.
