North Dakota ranks first in the nation in funding programs aimed at preventing children from smoking and helping smokers quit.

A national report released this week by a coalition of public health organizations indicates North Dakota currently spends 9.5 million dollars each year on tobacco prevention and cessation programs. Along with Alaska, North Dakota is one of only two states that meets Centers for Disease Control-recommended levels of tobacco prevention program funding.
