ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A St. Paul man who was driving a Toyota
in a crash that killed three people has asked a judge for a new
trial.
Koua Fong Lee's attorney, Brent Schafer, filed the petition in
Ramsey County District Court on Wednesday. The 32-year-old Lee
insists he was unable to stop his 1996 Camry before it crashed into
another car at high speed in 2006.
Schafer began working to get the case reopened after Toyota
recalled several newer models due to sudden acceleration problems.
Lee's petition was accompanied by affidavits from 16 people who
describe sudden acceleration in their older Toyotas.
Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner (GAIRT'-ner) says her
office will "thoroughly review" the filings. Prosecutors have 20
days to file a response.
