A Bipartisan caucus aimed at supporting local economies and civilian transitioning for our Veterans was held Wednesday.
U.S. Senators Heidi Heitkamp and Georgia Republican Johnny Isakson hosted the inaugural "Senate Defense Communities Caucus."
The event focused on ways communities can support veterans as they transition out of the military and into civilian life, and highlighted successful economic development in defense communities.
Grand Forks County Commissioner John Schmisek and UND's UAS manager Mike Corcoran also took part.
“They have been instrumental in promoting and collaborating on using the enhanced use lease, which is close to being signed, we hope it will be signed in January with the Air Force and from there hopefully they will build an industrial park that will provide support and research and attract a lot of people in the remotely piloted aircraft industry,” said Heitkamp.
Heitkamp and Isakson launched the bipartisan coalition this year to focus on the unique issues facing defense communities Seventeen Senators are now members of the Caucus.
