Rancher finds 124 livestock frozen in the Cannonball River

No matter how well you care for your livestock, a rancher can't prevent a freak incident like this. When Dick Ressler started to round up his cows and calves last Tuesday along the Cannonball River he knew something was wrong.

Unable to find part of his cow herd for two days, with a plane in the sky and a 4 wheeler on the ground, Ressler finally found the cattle he had been missing.

124 animals frozen in the river. 40 cows and 88 calves. A sight that's hard to see. Especially for the man who has spent countless hours caring for them.

The question why may never be answered. The water tank, creep feeders, protein blocks and corn are less than a 1/2 a mile away, a short jaunt for a cow.
