An elevator fire broke out in Crookston Wednesday morning. The fire is believed to have started when a grain dryer being used to dry sunflowers at Sun Opta overheated in the early morning hours. For a time there was concern for the elevator building itself.

"Upon arrival, the grain dryer itself was pretty well fully engulfed. So we initiated an offensive attack. Our biggest concern was the elevator itself," said Bob Masgam with the Crookston Fire Department.

The main loss was to the grain dryer. The Crookston and Fisher fire departments responded to the fire.
