There will be a fewer hungry people this holiday season thanks to a large donation from two food industry businesses.
Friday. the North Dakota Great Plains Food Bank picked up 5,000 pounds of ham donated by John Morrell Meats and Hugos. Food Bank officials say one in ten people in North Dakota used some kind of food assistance during the year, and many families have less money to spend on food right now because of higher heating bills.
"And so this gift today comes at a perfect time from these food industry partners to help us to feed those who are struggling in North Dakota," said Marcia Paulson with the Great Plains Food Bank.
The North Dakota Great Plains Food Bank supports more than 250 food programs across the state, including food pantries and shelters up and down the Red River Valley.
