Crookston's Riverview Health Gets High-Tech CT Scanner

The Riverview Health Center in Crookston is now home to one of 4 new CT scanners in the western Minnesota region.

The Riverview Health Center in Crookston is now home to one of 4 new CT scanners in Northwest Minnesota.

Crookston was picked because of its location relative to other small communities and the capabilities it already had. The scanner can complete a full body scan in 4.3 seconds compared to more than 2 minutes with the old-style scanner. In addition to being faster and more accurate, it exposes patients to far less radiation than before.

It can help diagnose heart problems and many other illnesses.

"We are the 18th one in the United States; we are the fourth one in our region, the first rural hospital to ever have this kind of technology."

It will be particularly beneficial with kids who can't sit still or hold their breath for long periods of time while in the scanner tube.
