The popular TED talks series will come to Grand Forks early next year. TED is described as a non-profit devoted to ideas worth spreading. TED events are set around the world with prominent speakers like Bill Gates.

A local group is bringing a "TED-X" event to the Empire Theater on February 7th next year. Speakers will include Anna Hovet, a Grand Forks native who is now a successful fashion designer in Chicago.

TED-X organizer Emily Burkland says it's exciting to bring innovative speakers to Grand Forks.

Emily Burkland said, "We're bringing it to Grand Forks because we think it's important for our community to have access to these new ideas that are worth spreading, so we're gonna be bringing in speakers from across the country, and also selecting one local speaker as well."

There will be an open-mic competition next month to give one local person the chance to present a TED talk at the event.
