No one was seriously injured in a 4-car pileup that happened Tuesday morning on I-29 in Grand Forks.

The Highway Patrol says the accident happened shortly after 7:00 just north of the 32nd Avenue Interchange in the northbound lane. A patrol officer had stopped to help a vehicle that had gone into the ditch. While he was calling for a tow truck inside his patrol car, a pickup lost control and hit the back of the car. The crash caused two other cars to collide. Officials say icy conditions are likely to blame.

"It started a chain reaction crash. The initial collision occurred just seconds later, two other vehicles collided and one of the vehicles ended up crashing into the front end of the vehicle," said Lt. Dave Wolf with the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The patrol officer was brought to Altru Hospital and was treated and released.
