FARGO, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Democrats still need candidates
for state tax commissioner and attorney general on the eve of their
state convention.
About 700 Democratic delegates are expected to gather at the
Fargo Civic Auditorium on Friday and Saturday. They'll be choosing
favored candidates for seven state offices and paying tribute to
Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan, who is leaving the Senate this year.
Of the seven offices on the November ballot, the only Democratic
incumbent is U.S. Rep. Earl Pomeroy. He is seeking his 10th term.
State Democratic chairman Mark Schneider says delegates are
energized by Congress' approval of a health care overhaul bill.
Schneider believes Pomeroy will benefit politically from supporting
the measure.
