A Grand Forks woman is trying to move on Thursday evening after her garage and all its belongings were destroyed in a fire. The Grand Forks Fire Department responded to a fire in a detached garage at 617 15th Avenue South.

When fire fighters arrived on the scene the garage was engulfed in flames and heavy smoke was coming from it. Neighbors in surrounding homes were evacuated and the fire was quickly brought under control and then put out.

"I heard the sirens in the background and then they just got louder and louder and just stopped in front of my house. I'm in the top window just across the street. It kinda shocked me. Kinda made your heart stop for a minute. I just looked right out and the whole garage was just engulfed in flames," said neighbor Samantha Walk.

An estimated 16,000 dollars in damage was done to the garage contents. Homeowner Dawn Ostenson who was at work at the time of the fire says she is happy her house was not affected. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
