The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the St. Michael, N.D., woman who died in a two-car crash one mile south of Devils Lake Friday.
Maxine Paul, 54, was riding with William Waanatan, 40, of St. Michael, N.D., going south on state Highway 20 from Devils Lake around 7 p.m., when he lost control of the vehicle. The 1989 Oldsmobile spun into the other lane and was hit by a northbound 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Chad Tollefson, 37, of Devils Lake, according to the state Highway Patrol.
Tollefson’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Waanatan’s Oldsmobile and both cars came to a halt on the shoulder of the northbound lane, the report said.
Paul was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. Waanatan was flown to Altru Hospital for treatment.
Tollefson and four passengers were not injured.
The crash is still under investigation.
