Crews respond to train derailment and fire near Casselton

Casselton, ND - Crews are responding to a train derailment and fire in Casselton. Scanner traffic indicated a train derailment occurred around 2:30 PM Monday. Crews on scene are reporting fire from the train.

Casselton, ND --A train has derailed late Monday afternoon.

The train that derailed about a mile west of town was eastbound carrying crude oil. Emergency and fire-fighting crews responded to the derailment around 2:10 p.m.

This thick, black smoke could be seen from around 15 miles outside of town. The train was 106 cars long and headed east-bound. No crew members were injured during the accident.

The City auditor sent out an email to Casselton residents around 3 p.m., advising them to stay in their homes. We will have updates as they become available
