Second annual blood drive to honor Cheryl Steinbrink

Dozens of people donated blood at Trinity Lutheran Church as part of the event. Organizers set a goal of getting 42 blood units and ended up with 48. The drive was held in memory of longtime Crookston resident Cheryl Steinbrink who died in August 2012 from complications with surgery.

Tuesday marked the second annual blood drive in Crookston honoring the late Cheryl Steinbrink.

Dozens of people donated blood at Trinity Lutheran Church as part of the event. Organizers set a goal of getting 42 blood units and ended up with 48. The drive was held in memory of longtime Crookston resident Cheryl Steinbrink who died in August 2012 from complications with surgery.

"You know her complications - obviously she needed a lot of blood. And I guess this is our way of giving back for all the people prior to that that were able to give it to her," said organizer Robin Steinbrink.

Organizers teamed up with United Blood Services for the drive. They say most of the blood stays in the local area.
