BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Bismarck folk singer has begun a recall

campaign against a state lawmaker who's charged with assaulting his

wife.

Kris Kitko needs at least 1,902 petition signatures to force a

recall election against Bismarck state Rep. Dave Weiler.

Weiler was arrested March 11 for assault after his estranged

wife, Nicole, says he punched her in the face. Dave Weiler says the

incident never happened. A year ago, Weiler pleaded guilty to

pushing his wife to the pavement in the parking lot of a Bismarck

store.

Kitko recorded a song critical of the Republican lawmaker and

says she feels obliged to try to remove him from office.

A successful recall would force Weiler out before his term ends

in December 2012.
