As cold weather grips much of the Nation it isn't just frostbite and hypothermia we have to think about. The Center for Disease Control is now reporting 25 states are experiencing widespread geographic influenza activity. That number is up from 10 states two weeks ago.

While the most severe activity seems to be in the Southeastern states, Minnesota is one of the 25 states reporting widespread activity. So far this season there have been six pediatric deaths due to the flu. The CDC estimates that flu vaccines prevented 6.6 million illnesses last year.

The flu season usually peaks in January or February.
