A Grand Forks neighborhood was without water Tuesday morning following a water main break.
The break happened between the 1500 and 1600 bocks of 7th Avenue North at around 1:45 Tuesday morning. Crews shut off water to the area and waited for additional utility crews to mark lines that they may dig safely around other buried gas and electrical lines. Officials completed repairs to the line, restoring water at around 2:45 Tuesday afternoon, and are working to fill excavated earth. Officials say these breaks tend to happen in older parts of town where pipes are not made of pvc, and that heating and cooling of the ground contributes to the damage in addition to extreme cold temps.
