Flu is on the rise across the nation and here in the Red River Valley. The flu activity tripled last week from six states to 20, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

More than 900 cases have been reported in Minnesota, and more than 800 in North Dakota. Health officials are calling it a dramatic rise and the H1N1 virus continues to be the most common strain.

Mid december there were 88 cases of the flu in North Dakota. Now there are 843. The flu is extremely contagious so if you haven't already gotten the vaccine, it's not too late to get a flu shot. It reduces your chance of getting the flu by 60 percent.
