Government funding was set to cut funding to the global hawk mission and various missile silos across the country. However Senator John Hoeven authored language in this appropriations bill to make global hawks and missile silos a priority.
The language specifies that no Global Hawk aircraft may be retired or divested from the Air Force inventory.
Senator Hoeven said, "Our men and women in uniform do an amazing, job, but it is vital, it is vital for them and for the defense of our nation that we always maintain our technology lead in weaponry over the rest of the world."
The bill was passed by the House of Representatives earlier Wednesday evening.
