By the summer, a semi-pro football team is expected to be in place in Grand Forks — one that is scheduled to play in the Midwest Premier League.
James Kern, who runs the league, said tryouts for the team — to be called the Tri-City North Stars — will be held Saturday at a place to be determined.
“We’re building this from the ground up,” said Kern.
The team is expected to play an eight-game schedule in July, August and the first part of September.
Details regarding the schedule and field availability have yet to be finalized, said Kern.
However, the games will be played on Saturday.
The team is called the Tri-City North Stars because it’s expected players from Grand Forks, East Grand Forks and Crookston will comprise the team. Also, games may be played in all three cities.
To promote the new team, Kern said former Minnesota Vikings running back Chuck Foreman will be in Grand Forks on Super Bowl Sunday. He is scheduled to appear at the Brick & Barley bar and restaurant in downtown Grand Forks from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“We’re looking for anyone who wants to be part of the organization, from owners to coaches to players,” said Kern.
