The on-going cold and snowy conditions have made this winter a challenge to keep city streets clear. This week Grand Forks street crews hope to finally remove snow that has piled up along roadways and intersections.

Its been hard for city crews to catch a break this year because it not just the snow and cold. It's also the wind that causes drifting.

Mark Aubol from the City Street Department says this year it has been a little like chasing your tail. When it's not snowing the wind is blowing it around. And the continued cold temps make it hard to get that build up of ice off many of the residential streets. Aubol says this week crews will concentrate on widening some of the roadways that have become narrow because of the snow.

Grand Forks Streets Superintendent Mark Aubol said, "Just a steady winter where we can't keep up. It's like we get a little bit of snow here and a little bit there. And before you know we have a lot of snow and we are trying to plow it back and that gets to be the troublesome part about it."

Aubol says the street department has had plenty of calls complaining about people not moving their cars after a snow event and about unshoveled sidewalks.
