Hetikamp tours new Devils Lake VA Clinic that is expected to open in April

North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp says she's excited about the progress of a new VA clinic slated to open soon in Devils Lake.

North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp says she's excited about the progress of a new VA clinic slated to open soon in Devils Lake.

The senator toured the clinic site which is scheduled to open around the first of April at Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake. The hospital is in the process of renovating the space for the VA.

The clinic will offer telehealth services for veterans, as well as part-time physician care in person. The project was first announced a decade ago.

Heitkamp says Lake Region vets have long deserved health care close by.

North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp said,"In spite of our booming economy people have to drive long distances to get medical treatment from the VA, and so it's critically important that the community outreach clinics be placed strategically in our state."

Heitkamp says it's especially important to open a clinic in Devils Lake because of the large amount of native american veterans in the region who will have better access to health care.
