A new flight simulator at Lake Region State College in Devils Lake is giving students a chance to hone their skills on state-of-the-art equipment.

The school's flight simulator program has been around for 26 years, but this is the first time the school has had a brand new simulator. Students learn how to repair the simulators, which are used by everyone from colleges, to airlines, to delivery companies to train pilots.

The motion simulator is about 20 years newer than other stationary simulators the school owns, something instructor Jared Wilhelmi says it will make the program stronger for students.

"It is more advanced and more cutting edge technology, and it is going to better prepare them for their future working in the workforce, where they will encounter these types of systems," said Wilhelmi

Wilhelmi says Lake Region is one of just three colleges to offer two year aircraft simulator technician program in the country.
