ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is headed

back to Asia to lead a state trade mission to China and Japan in

September.

The overseas trip comes a few months before he leaves office.

Pawlenty announced the Sept. 8-19 trip on Friday. It will be his

third visit to China and first to Japan.

In his two terms as governor, Pawlenty previously led trade

missions to Brazil, Canada, Chile, the Czech Republic, India,

Israel and Poland.

Pawlenty says his return to China is a recognition of the

country's growing importance as a Minnesota export market.

According to the state trade office, China imports more than $1

billion of Minnesota products every year, making the second biggest

trade market after Canada.
