Outage update from Northern Plains Electric Cooperative

April 2, 2010 --5p.m.

A weather system creating problems for power lines hit the Maddock area beginning Good Friday morning. Some 15 Northern Plains linemen were called out at nine a.m., and have been working to restore power ever since. Rain has turned to ice and is building up on the lines, causing them to "gallop." As they slap together, they break poles, conductors and wire spans.

By late afternoon, Northern Plains had six broken poles and a number of broken conductors and broken or twisted wires. Linemen will be working into the night to restore power to more than 70 members.

Northern Plains appreciates its members' patience and asks them to report and stay clear of downed lines or poles by calling 1-800-882-2500.
