Talks are progressing slowly between the city of Devils Lake and an oil company looking to build an oil refinery in the city.
American Energy Holdings is hoping to build a refinery that would handle 20,000 barrels of oil a day. The plant would be built in an industrial park west of town. It would bring between 50 and 100 jobs to Devils Lake.
Rachel Lindstron with Forward Devils Lake says American Energy officials postponed a trip to Devils Lake last month. She's been in touch with the company though, helping them fill out paperwork and deal with environmental concerns associated with the project.
Rachel Lindstrom of Forward Devils Lake said, "We are working with them as they have different requests and their different needs as they go through the paperwork process and we are working with the government, what the needs are. We are helping as a community."
The project is far from a certainty, but Lindstrom says she hopes oil company officials make a trip to Devils Lake later this month to discuss the refinery.
