Drivers may see changes in the speed limits on some roads in Grand Forks in the next few weeks. The city is looking at increasing the speed limit on 17th Avenue South west of South 34th Street, 24th Avenue South north of the Columbia Mall, and the lower end of Belmont Road. All would be increased by five miles per hour. City leaders are also discussing increasing the speed limit on Gateway Drive from east of Columbia Road to the Minnesota state line from 30 to 35 miles per hour. City officials say although the speed limit signs will be different, drivers won't see much of a change.
"The police did a study and we actually determined the speeds based on what people are driving right now. All we're doing is posting the speed to reflect what they're driving," said City Traffic Engineer Jane Williams.
Tonight The Grand Forks Service Safety Committee also talked about how late outdoor seating areas of downtown businesses can stay open.
