Turtle Mountain proposes a casino and entertainment complex in Grand Forks

The turtle mountain band of Chippewa Indians is proposing a casino and entertainment complex in Grand Forks. The Finance and Development committee will hear the proposal at Monday nights meeting. This isn't the first time the this proposal has been made. It was pushed for in 2005 and 2006, but met community opposition.

The turtle mountain band of Chippewa Indians is proposing a casino and entertainment complex in Grand Forks. The Finance and Development committee will hear the proposal at Monday nights meeting. This isn't the first time the this proposal has been made. It was pushed for in 2005 and 2006, but met community opposition.

The purpose of Monday's meeting is to hold discussions with the city of Grand Forks to find ways in which this proposed casino will mutually beneficial to the tribe and the city. Other topics will be discussed, such as the environmental impact, impacts on the social cultural and economic development.

Some council members reported that community members have called and voiced their concerns. Council member Dana Sande told WDAZ he's neither for nor against the casino, but is interested in hearing the proposal.
