Senator Hoeven met with rail leaders Tuesday to help resolve shipping delays this winter. Leaders from American Crystal Sugar and Amtrak expressed concern that they aren't able to transport sugar or passengers like they used to.

Senator Hoeven says Tuesday's meeting was to address capacity constraints on railways.

Companies like American Crystal Sugar and Amtrak are feeling those constraints because so much oil is being transported by rail. Senator Hoeven says Tuesday's meeting went well and hopes to see improvements in rail service.

BNSF leaders are expected to make a big investment.

Sen. John Hoeven said, "BNSF is committed to make very large investments in their network to upgrade their network to increase their output and capacity five billion dollars this year that means 5,000 more people five thousand cars five hundred more locomotives 600 billion in track on the northern line."

Senator Hoeven says this is more than a short term issue and may take some months to resolve.
