The U.S. Men's Hockey team started this year's winter Olympics in dominant fashion. Team USA crushed Slovakia 7 to one early Thursday. A great start for a team which features several former UND hockey standouts.

TJ Oshie and Zach Parise both had successful hockey careers while at the University of North Dakota. That success has continued to the NHL and now the Olympics. Oshie is making his first Olympic appearance. This is Parise's second Olympics and first as team captain. Accomplishments that local players aspire to.

Red River High School hockey player, Jonah Kratochvil said, "It's always everyone's dream to play with UND and then move on to better and bigger like the Olympics."

Red River Hockey Player Logan Montgomery said, "Every hockey player starts somewhere, it'd obviously be really tough to make it there but you got to put in a lot of hard work and so that inspires me to work harder and put in my best."

Red River Hockey Player Keenen Berning said, "My dad used to be the manager of The Ralph and I used to practice with them and I though it was the coolest thing ever and now that they're playing in the Olympics it's pretty cool."

Team USA next plays Russia on Saturday.
