Jackson, MS (CNN) - A mom in Mississippi got quite a surprise after she went into labor. She was expecting triplets, but ended up giving birth to four identical baby girls.

Kimberly Fugate was set to give birth to triplets on May 2nd, but, at just 28 weeks, her plans took a turn.

Kimerly Fugate – Mother of Quadruplets: "They just decided that morning they were coming."

There were more of "them" than she thought.

Kimberly Fugate: "They had got the three out and they said more feet, more feet. That's all i heard, and i said, 'no!'"

Quadruplets = Four little girls born with no medical assistance.

Kimberly Fugate: "Spontaneous. No drugs to help me get pregnant."

It's something doctors say is highly uncommon.

Dr. James Bofill – Kimberly Fugate’s Physician: "The odds of spontaneous quadruplets is 1 in every 729,000 live births. But, what made this particular case, Mrs. Fugate's case, so unique is that these are identical quadruplets, and the chances of having identical quadruplets...It's almost incalculable."

Kimberly's husband, Craig, was just as surprised as she was, but the couple say they're up for the challenge.

Craig Fugate – Father: "I was kinda stunned there for a second, but I was like, 'Well, we'll deal with it too.'"

Their 10-year-old daughter Katelyn already has some ideas for how to tell her new sisters apart.

Katelyn Fugate – Daughter: "Maybe you could paint a fingernail or a bracelet or something."

Kimberly says, while she's excited about her new daughters, one thing is certain.

Kimberly Fugate: "This is it."

The last known set of identical quadruplets was born in Germany in January 2012. Experts estimate there are 50 to 60 sets worldwide.
