An investigation continues into the death of a Crookston man found under water this weekend. 37-year-old Kory Stromstad was submerged in a hole in the ice inside his spearfishing house Saturday just off the shore of Maple Bay.
There are a lot of unanswered questions when it comes to the death of Kory Stromstad. On Saturday, the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of an unresponsive male on Maple Lake. 37-year-old Kory Stromstad was found underwater in his spear house. He was transported to Riverview Hospital in Crookston where he was later pronounced dead.
Stromstad was a customer of Ceason Bait and Tackle in Crookston.
Owner Caesar Kaiser says a number of things could have happened to Stromstad.
Caesar Kaiser, owner of Ceason's Bait & Tackle said, "It's possible you can slip in the hole. Normally a hole for spearing is normally about maybe 3 by 3 foot square hole so if you happen to slip and fall yea you'll go in there."
Neighbors say Stromstad's spear house was removed from the water Saturday. The Polk County sheriff's department is investigating the case.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 Thursday evening at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston. Funeral services will be at 10:00 Friday morning.
Stromstad is survived by his wife Stacy and two sons.
