The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office reported fewer crimes in most categories in 2013 compared with other recent years.

The Grand Forks County Sheriff's Office reported fewer crimes in most categories in 2013 compared with other recent years.

In its 2013 statistics, released Tuesday, the department reported 77 assaults, down from 88 in 2012, the lowest number since 2008 and the third lowest in the past 10 years.

There were 95 drug cases in the year, compared with 144 in 2012. It was the lowest number since 2010, though still higher than any of the seven years reported before 2010, when totals ranged between 41 and 60.

There were 84 thefts and larceny incidents, up from 77 reported in 2012 and the fourth-highest total in the past 10 years.

The Sheriff's Office reported one homicide in 2013, the first since 2010.
