Another big victory for the USA Men's Hockey team Wednesday, against the Czech Republic. And another big day for Warroad native and former UND hockey player, TJ Oshie.
TJ Oshie has been the talk of the Olympics for the past week, ever since he lead the men's USA hockey team to victory over Russia. And the folks in his hometown, Warroad, have been rallying behind his success.
The people of Warroad have plenty to be proud of. The mens hockey team beat the Czech Republic Wednesday, advancing them to the semi-finals, and the women's team plays for the gold Thursday.
Izzy's Lounge is a popular gathering place in Warroad and it was packed with fans cheering on team USA. Oshie is a hometown hero and some of his biggest fans were watching his every move Wednesday on the ice. While Oshie fever caught on worldwide this past Saturday, after his incredible shoot out and win against Russia, for the folks in Warroad it wasn't anything they haven't seen before.
David Marvin, Gigi Marvin's uncle said, "If you ever were in our arena on Sunday nights at Copper Kings, or if you were a teammate of his at North Dakota or with the Warriors, you know honestly can't be totally surprised, the guy has always been a magician."
Many we met with Wednesday say they plan to pack the lounge again and root for Gigi. The women's hockey team will play Canada for the gold. The game starts 11 AM central time Thursday.
Meanwhile, the men's next hockey game will be the semi-finals this Friday at 11 AM central time against Canada.
