North Dakota Power Outages
Gov. John Hoeven is seeking a federal disaster declaration for 12 North Dakota counties and the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation in the wake of Good Friday snow storm.By: Associated Press, WDAZ
Heavy snow and strong winds that struck April 1-3 crippled the
electrical infrastructure in southwest and central North Dakota,
toppling about 10,000 power poles and downing hundreds of miles of
lines. As many as 8,400 people were without power after the storm.
About a thousand were still without power on Sunday.
The state estimates the storm caused $33 million in damage to
North Dakota's power infrastructure. Public utilities will bare the
brunt of those costs.
A disaster declaration will allow state and local government
entities to request federal aid to help pay for repair costs.
