A rally and march in support of the Fighting Sioux nickname drew hundreds of supporters tonight in Grand Forks.
It was difficult to get an exact count in the dark, but estimates put the crowd at about 400.
Eunice Davidson, a nickname supporter of the Spirit Lake Tribe and Archie Foolbear, a supporter from the Standing Rock Reservation spoke before the march.
The group peacefully marched down University Avenue to Stanford Road, at time yelling Sioux chants.
Danielle Sime came up with the idea for the march. She says she was surprised by the turnout.
Danielle SimeMARCH ORGANIZE: "I never thought it would get as huge as it did and I'm glad it is. It just shows that people do support."
The Grand Forks and University police departments had extra officers on duty tonight to make sure things were kept peaceful.
