JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) - The Evangelical Lutheran Church in

America's Eastern North Dakota Synod has voted against a resolution

calling for the reversal of the national church's statement on

human sexuality.

The resolution failed Saturday with a 249-179 vote during the

synod's weekend assembly.

The statement put forth last year outlines the church's view of

human sexuality. It was criticized by some as conflicting with

Scripture, particularly in its acceptance of gays and lesbians.

The Eastern North Dakota Synod is among 65 synods in the ELCA.

It encompasses 230 congregations and has 102,000 members.
