It has been over a year since Northland Community and Technical College in East Grand Forks has increased tuition.

However it will do so this year, but only minimally.

The increase is projected to be 3-point-5 percent, not the 5 percent other colleges in the Minnesota State Colleges and University system are looking at doing.

The College President is meeting with students for a consultation to discuss the increase but a tuition increase is typical.

For the most part it appears that students attend Northland based on affordability, location and majors.

"Part of our state allocation is being reduced and so we need to take a look across the board and what the budget is and then we have to take a look at where we need to increase and tuition is one of those ways that we are able to meet our budget," says Mary Fontes, Dean of Student Services.

The college credits its foundation and scholarship program with helping out in easing the financial stress for its students.
