There's a shortage of houses to purchase in the Lake Region area.
Many people are having trouble finding a house to buy in this area.
Al Freidig owns Real Estate 7 and he says there just aren't many houses on the market.
Al Freidig: "Our inventory is probably down to less than half of what it was last year.. and that signifies a shortage to me."
Freidig says the recent First Time Homebuyer Tax Credit has is a big reason why there are less houses for sale.
Al Freidig: "It's been very active in our community and the people have been very responsive to it, so there's a lot of people looking now."
There isn't just a shortage of houses to buy- some people have also found trouble renting a place.
As the city fights the battle of the rising Devils Lake... many construction workers have moved to the area.
Al Freidig: "Were looking at probably 400 employees here for the next 2 years due to road construction and dike construction and other projects going on."
Freidig says he hopes the upcoming Devils Lake Regional Housing Roundtable will provide a solution to this problem.
Al Freidig: "What we need to do is sit down as a community and figure out where we are going to go long range and figure out some kind of incentive program to build some housing units."
The Housing Roundtable will be May 19th at Lake Region State College.
