A group of UND students will be out volunteering their time tomorrow to thank the community for supporting the university. The Big Event is a community service project where both students and staff volunteer to do things like yard work and painting. Organizers say the Big Event will be very big this year - more than 1,200 people have signed up to help, which is a new record. Thanks to a new campaign to get the word out, they had more interest from people in the community looking for their help.
"We got a lot more response this year, not only individuals in the community but also organizations that haven't participated before. And those included some churches in the community that haven't participated as well as non-profit organizations," said The Big Event Director Amy Jordan.
Organizers say the campaign worked. They got more of a response from individuals and organizations looking for help this year. They expect to volunteer at more than 160 homes.
