Walsh County Will Be Seeing An Increase In Healthcare Premiums

Walsh County employees are looking at an increase in healthcare costs.

Walsh County employees are looking at an increase in healthcare costs. Walsh County employees are looking at a 6 point 6 percent increase in their healthcare costs. Blue Cross Blue Shield told the commission that a rate hike would kick in on May 1st.

The county has 50 employees that this increase will effect. A single plan went from 357 dollars to 381 dollars. To help off set costs the county in currently helping its employees by paying 75 percent of the cost of healthcare.

Ernie BartaWALSH COUNTY COMMISSIONER:"We know it's going to increase every year and we just try to help the employees out. We can't afford to pay all of it, but we decided that 75 percent and hopefully we can keep maintaining that as insurance goes up every year."

They have been paying part of the premium for last two years.
