Devils Lake residents have narrowly approved a proposed elementary school addition.

The measure got 61 percent approval in Tuesday's vote, 1 percent more than was required.

It was the second time in six months that the $4 million, 20,000-square-foot project had gone before voters. In late March, the Sweetwater Elementary plan was supported by only 55 percent of

the voters.

In the second vote, taxpayers were asked to fund only $2.5 million of the cost. The school district has received $1.5 million in federal stimulus money, freeing up other district money for the project.
