Walsh County Whooping Cough: 3 Cases Confirmed, 12 Others Suspected

The North Dakota Department of Health has issued a health advisory because of an outbreak of whooping cough in Walsh County.

The North Dakota Department of Health has issued a health advisory because of an outbreak of whooping cough in Walsh County.

So far three cases have been confirmed and twelve others are suspected.

The people with whooping cough are in the age range from 2 years old to 12 years old.

People are most infectious early in the illness, but may be contageous for three weeks after they get sick.

The Department of Health recommends that people who have whooping cough not go to community activities, work, school or daycare.

Whooping cough is preventable by getting a vaccine, usually administered to children and teenagers.
