A Grand Forks woman accused of allowing a 3-year-old child she was baby-sitting to wander onto a highway near Devils Lake is scheduled to enter a plea on June 17.
18-year-old Chelsea Walkingeagle made a brief court appearance today on a felony child abuse or neglect charge.
The judge set several conditions for Walkingeagle to remain free without posting bond, including regular drug testing.
Authorities accuse Walkingeagle of smoking marijuana in a garage on April 21 while the child wandered off and ended up on state Highway 20. The child was rescued by a sheriff's deputy.
Walking Eagle could face up to five years in prison if convicted.
