How Will The GF Smoking Ban Affect Downtown

Some are wondering just how the new smoking will be enforced in downtown Grand Forks.

The smoking ban was discussed

Wednesday by Downtown Design Review Board.

There is concerns because the ordinance requires smokers to stay atleast 15 feet from a businesses door. But because of stretches of sidewalk and number of business Downtown, there would be very few places for anyone to smoke on 3rd and 4th streets.

Brad GenglerGRAND FORKS CITY PLANNER: "With the downtown, typically with 3rd and 4rd Street, rarely would you find a spot on the sidewalk that's not 15 feet from a door."

Gengler says the city will continue to work with bars as the smoking ban goes into affect August 15th.
