DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Longtime Devils Lake Mayor Fred Bott has become known around North Dakota for being at the forefront of the Devils Lake flood battle.
Once he steps down as mayor in June, he'll leave not only the office but also the floodwaters behind.
Bott says he and his wife, Judy, are selling their home and moving to Mandan. He says there are several reasons, including a lack of available condominiums in Devils Lake. He also has a brother in Bismarck.
Both Botts are retired teachers. They both have been in Devils Lake for about four decades.
Bott announced earlier this year that he would not seek a sixth four-year term. Bott has been mayor since the spring of 1990 - when there were worries about a lack of water in the lake.
