North Dakota Guard Unit Gets Orders for 3 Missions

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota National Guard says an air defense artillery unit has mobilization orders for two missions in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota National Guard says an air defense artillery unit has mobilization orders for two missions in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.

The Guard says about 40 soldiers from the 1st Battalion of the 188th Air Defense Artillery Regiment will replace another unit of the 188th now serving in Afghanistan.

About 25 soldiers will work with radar and surveillance systems in Afghanistan, and eight soldiers will serve a similar mission in Iraq. The Guard says the Sentinel Radar assignment is a first for the North Dakota Army National Guard.

The battalion was notified of possible mobilizations last year. The 188th is based in Bismarck, Fargo and Grand Forks.

The soldiers are to serve up to a year. A send-off ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 24 in Grand Forks.
