Click it or Ticket is in full force for the summer. The campaign kicks off again today. Drivers and passengers need to be buckled up, or it could cost you.
East Grand Forks Police say a fine could cost the driver $25 for everyone who is not wearing a seatbelt. But with legal fees it could total more than $100. Officials say it is all an effort to keep you safe during summer traveling. With increased traffic during holidays, they said they have a zero tolerance policy.
"We feel around here we see more motorists wearing seat belts. And our goal is to not write any tickets. We hope everyone has their belts on and they will get a ticket for it," said officer Darren Szczepanski.
According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, 140 people died in car accidents last year because they weren't wearing seatbelts.
