Swimmers braved some breezy weather for the first day of summer swimming because after some quick flood clean up last month the Riverside Pool in Grand Forks is open for business.

The lifeguards were bundled up, making it an atypical first day of swimming. Overall everyone at the pool was happy about the new season.

Last year the pool opened in August for the first time since 2003.

The pool had been shutdown due to continuous flooding problems because of its position near the dike.

The pool did have some minor flooding in April, but manager Jason Rolland said it was pretty minor and some steps have been taken to make everything a little easier.

" They've decided to re-open it even though it is on the wet side of the dike and to just deal with the cleanup. They've made it a lot easier to work with, everything they put in desks and everything are on wheels so they can take it out easily."

Rolland said when they opened last summer the turnout was about 800 to 900 kids per day.
